History of CCLE

Creating a Collaborative Learning Environment (CCLE) began with Katherine Sander's Industrial Engineering dissertation in the College of Engineering. The program then went campus-wide as part of the Provost's Office, and now resides as one of the core programs of the Delta Learning Community.

The emphasis on learning about learning is central to this program – the assumption being that before one can appropriately develop themselves as a teacher, they must first understand the complexities of the diverse experiences and learning processes of their students.

The framework we use to learn about learning comes from the concept Teaching-as-Research. By approaching teaching with an eye towards research, reflection, and inquiry, we can align ourselves with the skills we have developed as researchers, and apply them to our teaching.

Doing so in a cross-disciplinary environment, Learning-through-Diversity allows us to expand our understandings of others, and learn about the experiences, options and opportunities that enhance learning for all.
